For some of us, the holidays are filled with sorrowful reminders. There is another national sorrow added to the  personal ones this yuletide. We mourn the passing of Nelson Mandela, who lost his battle with lung disease this week.

He was an alpha lion in the pride working for justice and freedom in his own South Africa and an inspiration to innumerable others all over the world. Because of the victory over apartheid, we in our personal spheres are emboldened to oppose evil individually.

We understand the “power of together” and unashamedly join with like-minded others for causes important to health, safety, opportunity and well-being for ourselves and the people we love. We pray daring prayers for decades and love fearlessly. We kick down doors shut by
hatred for generations. We hope and we act in faith upon what we hope for.We dream with our eyes wide open.

We will miss Nelson Mandela from down here. He has walked on into glory ahead of us, but the seed of his ideas will never die.
